Hi Faculty, Staff, Students and Members of our Community,

As we leave for our long weekend, the inspiration and memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, President Lyndon Bains Johnson and President John F. Kennedy remind us of the landmark Civil Rights Act that underlines our commitment to equal rights, non-violence and social change. These leaders challenged our country to be a better place where every person is valued and respected. Dr. King urged that 鈥渘o individual should be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.鈥澨 These words launched changes that helped in improving national attitudes, policies and laws. In 1964, Dr. Martin Luther King gave his famous 鈥淚 Have A Dream鈥 speech followed by President Johnson signing the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Dr. King was 35 years old and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. These historic events symbolized our country and highlighted our potential for greatness!
This holiday weekend offers all of us an opportunity to reaffirm and reflect on our appreciation for the uniqueness that each individual brings to his or her community and workplace. Have a good and safe long weekend with friends and family and please give thought to the reason for the Monday holiday.
